Heart Breaker

She pounds the ground

Pounding

Resounding

Shaking the earth

Making it quake

Deeper than her heart break

Her hot lava erupts

Into a burning rage Continue reading

Guest Blogger: Laura Lord

I’d like to introduce you all to Laura Lord.  She is not only a great writer but truly a kind, generous and giving person.  Laura, without even really knowing me, designed my cover for my e book with the image that I chose.  I am very grateful to her.

That being said, I couldn’t pass up this short story submission that Laura wants to share with us, because it’s so creepily good!!

Hi guys! It’s me, Laura A. Lord, aka the Mama. I’m a mother (obviously) of two wonderful little monsters, with another on the way, an author, a blogger…the list goes on and on. I am blessed enough to be able to spend most all of my days writing, and have published three books in the last few years. You can check them out on Amazon, and I’ll love you forever, or at least really, really like you. Better even, follow me on wordpress and check out my, almost daily, musings and snippets of life with children, family, the Husband, and my dementia-suffering uncle. Laughter truly is medicine, and I medicate daily.

It is Better

“And so put to death the sinful, earthly things…” Brian began, pausing as his lips fought with the next words. “…lurking with you. Have nothing to do with sexual immority…”

“Immorality, Brian. Immorality,” their teacher, Ms. Grayson, corrected him.

“Immorality, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, ‘cause a greedy person is an idolater…” His words came faster, catching up and running over one another. “…worshipping all the things in the world. Because these are sins, and God is angry and coming.”

“The anger of God is coming.” Continue reading

Weekly Writing Challenge: Dear Abby

The challenge:   For this week’s writing challenge, channel your inner Abigail Von Buren. Experiment with the question and answer format. Taking inspiration from a question you’ve been asked recently, whether in conversation with a friend or sent in from a reader, don your best counselor hat and share your expertise.

Dear Mrs.  I am getting married this week and I am unsure what to expect or how to go about being a husband.  Do you have any pointers or tips from your own experience to help me learn to be a good husband to my partner?

But not too tight

The Ring

My skin goose bumps

I feel so small

As I crawl back

Into my corner

Beaten

And bruised

Confused

Like an old time boxer

Ready to retire Continue reading

She is led under

As she wanders through the hollows of her mind

wondering what she will find

She stumbles upon memories of glass

That shine as bright as the suns first glow

Guest Blogger: Silouan Sautter

I want to introduce you to Silouan Sautter from the blog http://wordsinsidemysoul.wordpress.com/ .
He submitted this short story to my call out for guest bloggers.
I really hope you enjoy this read as much as I do!
I was captivated by his story!

He sat in the shade of a great log, fallen beside the road. Hooded, with his cloak spread around him, he seemed a statue in the shade of the log. He had not stirred for some time. The sun infused the noisome swamp mists with a hazy golden light. Insects hummed and chirped. Leaves drifted lazily on the slow breezes. Time slowed to an unbearable crawl. Under his hood the young fighter smiled. The demon was strong. Continue reading

The Descent

She fell from the branch

Tumbling on her way

To the end

Prepared for

The landing

She blew in the wind

Lifting, drifting

The wind carrying her where the wind might blow

Losing all control on where she would go Continue reading

What is Art?

art is freedom, art,

“…that you were not engaged with us because of your person; because of the parody of work that you display as “art” are a taint to that which is pure and true.” – anonymous

So I received this in an email yesterday from a fellow artist that is involved in ‘supporting’ fellow poets and artists through different methods of group interactions, writing prompts, competitions etc.

Might I also mention this someone has reblogged my work multiple times and has also left kind, supportive and encouraging mentions on many of my poetry posts.  So when I read the above comment I was completely shocked.

After much thought I have decided to leave this person anonymous and coming to this conclusion was a big challenge for me.  I take leadership, image, honesty and example very seriously.  I realize it’s not about the person it’s the idea of what art is that really got me going. Continue reading
