Sublime Retreat
I love to dance. I always have. I used to love going out to dance clubs with my girlfriends back in my younger days before life took over.
Now I turn on the music in my kitchen and dance like I’m in a club.
I dance for me because it energizes me, releases happy endorphins and reminds me that in those fleeting moments I’m just me.
Jennifer.
Not a mother or a daughter.
Not a sister or a wife.
Not a role model or a coach.
Just me.
It’s these sweet escapes that we often forget to make time for, as we get older, more responsible and entangled with more responsibilities.
I think it’s important as life ticks on by that we remember the sweet things that brought us joy and freedom before we had to become responsible for life and for others.
Always remember the things that made your heart soar, that made you feel free and joyous.
If you can’t remember what that was or if you never have found something that makes your spirit soar I encourage you to find it, embrace it and dance like no one is watching.
Sublime Retreat
Feel the rhythm
Moving through you
The throbbing of the sound
People all around
Heavy breathing
Lights a glow
Moving
The room is warm
The mood is sweet
Lost in the sound
move like no one is around
Lost in the soothing rhythm of the beat
Swept away,
Sublime retreat
Happy Friday!! Cheers to the weekend!!

Shore to shore, what was I born for?
So I was talking with my little guy last night. He is 5 years old and in full day senior kindergarten.
He’s been biting his nails lately so I asked him if anything was upsetting or bothering him. He said that he got anxious at school. When I asked why he said it was with large groups of people. He said everyone wants to play with him (which is great!) but he only likes to play with a few children at a time and when the group gets large it worries him.
Some of us do well in large groups while others prefer to have small groups or even one on one time. While I am all about being true to yourself and listening to your inner voice, there are times that we have to get out of our comfort zones, venture to places that are unknown and uncomfortable for that is where you will find the most growth.
When I asked my son why he thought that he was anxious in large groups he replied
“I wasn’t born for that.”
What a puzzling, wise response.
How does a 5 year old know what he was or was not born for?
Do we not ask ourselves every other day why am I here? Why was I born? What is my purpose?
While I wonder away and stand in awe of my 5 year old that knows and identifies so well with himself and his feelings I will hold him close and reassure him that there is no need to bite his nails and that he was indeed born for me.

Shore to shore
I will keep you safe.
Follow me.
I will show you how.
Explore,
But not too far,
Learn,
But not too much,
Swim but stay in line
When you get your wings
You may fly,
Oh me oh my,
Follow me
Stay in a row
a learning we will go
You are protected in the row,
Mummy in front,
Daddy behind.
When you fly off into the world
Daddy will always have your back
And I Mother,
Will always be here to guide you,
When you need me.
Oh, little gosling
You swam so sweetly
Followed in a row
Stay, follow me every where I go..
No, it’s time
Open your wings
You need to stretch,
You need to soar
From shore to shore
Oh my little gosling from before,
I know you can fly
I’ve seen you try
But tell me,
How will I say goodbye?

Revisited the poem, 9 years of marriage
So today is my 9 year wedding anniversary.
I won’t bore you with describing how fantastic of a friend, man, husband, father, son and brother that Alex is. I hit the man jack pot when we met.
Marriage is such a funny thing.
I’m reminded of a line in the movie So This is 40 (such a great movie, if you can laugh at yourself as a wife/woman or a husband/man and at relationships)
There is a line in the movie when the 2 men/husbands are talking about their wives and marriage and what it would be like if their wife died (peacefully of course, their rationalizing, women like a widowed man) and what their second wife would be like. This is all just light-hearted chatter between friends.
It went something like this “God, I can’t wait to meet my second wife, I hope she likes me better than the first.”
Even typing it out makes me laugh.
And so it goes with marriage.
If you can laugh at it, it means that you are aware of the realities in that statement and therefore you will see the ‘real’ issues that are being addressed and hopefully take action to better your relationship.
My marriage is firey and fun. I love the peaks and valleys, the good times and the bad times, acknowledging that and embracing it gives me confidence that my marriage is real and tangible, there for it will stand solid in a very real way. The hardships that you work through in marriage make you stronger.
The more seasons that you have weathered together successfully, the more confident you feel when the next storm arrives. Like a journey on a sailboat you have beautiful days and stormy days and that is expected of the journey. Hopefully you’ve packed well, brought all of the emergency supplies and things that you will need and then you can feel safe and prepared for the journey ahead.
My husband has been sailing since he was a young boy. He knows how to both prepare for the journey and sail through a storm and I’m thankful for that.

Revisited
A vast array
Of sentiments to say
But really it’s just another day
In our travels
Filled with seasons and temperatures
Wilted, about to fall,
A day so hot,
we need to shade ourselves
A commitment to time,
Paths chosen,
Revisited,
But always together
Hand in hand
We walk
One step blossoming
One step faded
Our footprints have left a path
In many a place
A shared look upon our face
Take my hand
And take the lead,
I will follow you indeed.
Photo props: I didn’t ask Alex if he minded me using this photo, I hope he doesn’t mind appearing half naked for the world to see, maybe he will sue me..
Cheers to us babe!!
Happy Anniversary.
Finish Line, a poem
Full story here: http://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2013/apr/15/two-explosions-boston-marathon-finish-line/
“Medical workers wheel the injured across the finish line during the 2013 Boston Marathon following an explosion in Boston, Monday, April 15, 2013. Two explosions shattered the euphoria of the Boston Marathon finish line on Monday, sending authorities out on the course to carry off the injured while the stragglers were rerouted away from the smoking site of the blasts.”
Finish line
The pounding of feet
Beating the street
Blinding sweat
But not so blinding I regret,
We will never forget
Lines crossed
Souls lost

My thoughts are with my American friends and family today.
The world at large feels this loss.
So many countries and so many nations are represented at the Boston Marathon.
World shaking,
Earth Quaking.

Modern Man *Warning, you may not like this*
Consider your self warned.
Modern Man
Materialism
Worldly things.
Man used to fight with swords
Flashy things of a different sort
Modern man? You have Power?
You are as soft as the sprinkle from my shower,
Oh, you great big tower
Flashy cars and diamond rings
A heart and soul that sings
Gone are the days of the Man of power,
Welcome to the days of the fragrant flower

Weekends, Palahniuk’s thoughts
“The only reason that we ask people how their weekend was is so we can tell them about our own weekend.”
Chuck Palahniuk
I have been reading a lot of Chucks work lately. He is well known for starting chapters and paragraphs with a punch. He is quite the read.
Have you read any of his books or short stories? If so what do you think?
This weekend quote is in honor of him.
Have a great Saturday.

Becky and the Black Labs
So I am going to see my friend this afternoon.
Around 2:00.
We both have black labs, husbands and children (well, she has a child).
Our dogs love to run and play together. They get along so well.
I love to watch Maya roll around and chase Bailey.
They have returned home from the nature trails and nearby woods with their tongues
hanging to the side and each other’s saliva turned to icicles hanging off of their mouths.
My friend and I pause our conversations to watch them when they come to the
sliding door, to check in with us and laugh. It makes us smile.
Now that winter is leaving us I am sure they will return a muddy mess.
I’m glad they have each other.
I’m glad that I have her.
Lady (Becky)
So there’s this lady that I know,
She challenges me to grow.
Our conversations just flow.
We crunch on baby carrots and sip on tea,
Time together just her and me,
no family
I am such a thinker, ponderer, wanderer,
She helps me challenge that voice,
quiet it if you will, make it still
So that I can reflect and inspect,
put myself in check,
Like I said there’s this lady that I know,
She challenges me to grow.
She’s someone you should know.
Friendship is a powerful thing.
Do you have a friend that’s different from the rest?
What is it about the person that is so unique and refreshing for you?
Please share in the comment section below, I would love to know!
