This was one of the hardest pieces I ever wrote, and it remains a defining moment in my journey into end-of-life care. Years later—after working as a funeral director, completing my INELDA training, and returning to this calling through Closer Lives—I understand even more deeply what this experience awakened in me. I’m leaving the original story untouched, but I’ve added an important reflection at the end.
