3 things poetry is not
I don’t know the first thing about poetry. I don’t think I have ever read a poetry book front to back. I didn’t study writing in college or university.
I wrote one poem a few years back. I decided to share that poem last week. Some people seemed to enjoy it.
I think the acceptance of readers and the encouragement of others birthed something that hadn’t been there before. Like childbirth it was unnerving, scary, becoming responsible for something new.
Like many new parents I had no idea what to do but I knew what not to do. Continue reading

Repeat, Replay
Do you ever feel that you are stuck on replay?
Do you ever do the very things that you tell yourself you want to change or never do again but then turn around and do the same darned thing? Does someone in your life keep telling you things will change only to repeat the same pattern over and over?
I think we all have loops in our lives. I also think that it’s important to break free from them.
When I listen to music I play my new favorite song over and over, to the dismay of all those around me! But this is not the kind of loop I want to break free from. Everyone can block their ears if they don’t like it! Pretty easy solution don’t you think?
Not all loops and repeats in our lives are as easily solved as this.
I don’t begin to pretend I know how to accomplish this but what I do know is that it’s important to be aware of the areas that we are stuck on repeat and attempt break free from them. Identifying that they exist is key.
Who would want to be stuck on replay everyday, or week, or month or year? I don’t think any of us would.
Forward thinking. Not hula hoop thinking.

Challenge yourself.
Change yourself.
Get out of your comfort zone and stop living life on repeat.
Put down the hula hoop.
Mean what you say and say what you mean.
Excuse me while I go and hit replay again on my iPod.
Now for a poem.
Cloaked
Repeat,
Replay,
Same words everyday,
Stated in a different way.
Upon the sunrise
I want to sing,
Then I see your eyes
They are clouded,
shrouded
Cloaked in empty promises
Memories of a forgotten time
Even the buds are withered
Not yet full grown,
Plucked and thrown
Potential unknown
Repeat,
Replay,
Same words every day
What are you listening to on repeat lately? (Literally or figuratively)
Let me know. Email or comment box.

Gravy Baby
One of my favorite memories related to Sundays are Yorkshire puddings!
I remember the house smelling like roast beef, so inviting, enticing.
Being first generation born Canadian with a British family, meat and potatoes were a big part of my diet growing up and you can’t have meat and potatoes with out gravy! That would be crazy!
My Grandmother and Mother are by far the Queens of making the most fantastic tasting Yorkshire puddings and the gravy…..the best part.
Enjoy the meat and potatoes of life (especially the gravy baby!)
Happy Sunny Sunday
Gravy Baby
It’s like gravy baby,
You and me
Our reverie
Just you
And me
A cup of Chemistry
A dash of Science
A teaspoon of Spirit
A tablespoon of Soul
Nourishment
Flavor
Gravy Baby
You and me
Ingredients
Combined so perfectly
Sweetly
Completely
It’s Gravy baby
In a boat
Our love a float
Flows hot
makes everything tastier
It’s like gravy baby
You and me
Combined so perfectly

Stats and palette’s
Today I’m feeling a little more like I have my footing. I feel better able to navigate my way around my blog.
I have no idea what stats typically look like for new bloggers and because my intention is to share my journey I will share where I’m at currently.
I had 35 views day one 4:30pm first blog.
Yesterday I had 115 views (second blog)
So far today I have had 34 views for a total of 214 views prior to the posting of this blog.
I have 16 followers 2 of whom I know personally.
I have been sincerely in awe by the fantastic community of writers, bloggers, poets, musings, opinions, photographer’s, techy’s and crafty’s (I like to add y’s and group people, my apologies if that offends it’s not intended to, it’s a celebration of the group of people) that are out there to discover. I have laughed and cried, been inspired and educated, not wanting to write only wanting to connect, comment and engage people about their writings and I’m only 40 hours into my blog/journey. There is so much material to read, to the point of distraction.
This reminds me of a quote that I love by Nietzsche a German philosopher.
“It is hard enough to remember my opinions, without also remembering my reasons for them!”
I learned about Nietzsche while in College last year in a general humanities course. My professor was an anthropologist and a ‘Wordy’ (see end quote of previous post for a description) unlike any other I have ever met.
He encouraged my writing even asked to keep copies of my papers and to read my pieces to the class. He was a great encourager.
When I first read Nietzsches philosophy I was enticed by his ideas of self. Being that I am not naturally a visual creative type of person I was drawn to the idea of creation.
Design with the ability to potentially become artistic, bold and colorful with myself as the palette.
Nietzsche believes that we can become unique, original. That we can become more than a sheep, a follower, a conformist, that our lives can be created by us to reflect art. Whatever we want to create, a masterpiece of our own design, inarguably perfect and beautiful because it is our creation.
Although I may not agree with all (or most for that matter) of Nietzsches philosophy I have always loved this idea.
Today while I was reading, I was so inspired to see this very idea coming alive on the palette’s of each individual visit to this place we call blog.

BLOG
Today I find myself reading other peoples Blogs and trying to navigate my way around my own Blog attempting to figure out how this all works. I am not very technologically inclined so I find this phase rather frustrating and distracting.
I have a love/hate relationship with technology and social media. Technology is changing the way we communicate, operate, think and socialize. It is also changing our priorities (ex. my spending the day figuring out how to navigate this Blog and worrying about whether or not it is aesthetically appealing rather than focusing my attentions to writing)
But I have been heard saying that I like to equate a depth of knowledge with a depth of over all character. People that are willing to invest time to read and research seem to be the same people that take time for all of the things around them with an understanding that we can’t be in all places at once but to be present in the places that we are at.
So, I learn to Blog.
“I am a ‘Wordy’ (word junky) and the word BLOG is so, well, for lack of a better word, blah.”
And so it begins…
So, today I decided to start a Blog, not unlike it seems, the entire free world.
After searching the internet far and wide, researching for tips from the pro’s on how to set up a Blog, how to successfully write a Blog, how often to write in your Blog, I discovered one major theme across them all. Have a specific direction or idea. Have a topic or a purpose.
They say don’t write about your love of birds, write about a specific bird but you see, I don’t have a bird, most definitely not a specific bird. I know a little but not a lot about all of the animal kingdom and I also find all of it equally fascinating and worth expressing thoughts and opinions about.
So let’s get to specifics, boiling it down to a theme, this was a problem. Yes, I say was because I found the common theme, my bird, my love of writing.
Where to begin? What to do with this passion of mine for writing? I want to share my current directionless journey, right from the beginning, through a Blog on how I attempt to share my thoughts and ideas with the world through writing.
So I will Blog about my journey towards becoming a published, read author/writer/blogger, while sharing my self, my musings, thoughts, books and papers with you along the way.
Hopefully together we can walk away from this journey enlightened and successful or in the very least, better acquainted.
