Essence

The Critic

I have this habit,
it is placing printed pages
on the floor.
I will sort through numerous
poems and stories
and put them in piles,
good in one pile
and bad in the next.

My dog came in to say hi.
I pet her behind the ear
and she walked out of the room.
I went back to review my work.
A poem that I couldn’t bring myself
to like,
went into the good pile anyway.

The next four went into the bad pile.
At that time I went to the bathroom.
When I came back,
I noticed a big yellow puddle
on the poem I placed in the good pile.

I didn’t know my dog could read.

Needless to say,
the poem went immediately into
the bad pile.

How to See it All in Ottawa

Innocence

Interpretation.

Innocence

Shunned, ashamed,

you turn away

but you know no other way.

This too shall pass

It’s only a season,

that must be the reason.

You muster up the strength,

lift yourself up off the floor.

What was once,

is no more.

Shadows and Flowers

*ORIGINAL POST DATE APRIL 5th*

So this morning I happened upon the blog naming constellations.  More specifically a piece entitled Slow Rhapsody http://namingconstellations.wordpress.com/2013/03/07/slow-rhapsody Maybe it was all the bacon talk (I love me some bacon) or his writings that reminded me of the weightiness that winter can bring (being Canadian I am well aware of this feeling) or maybe it was his beautiful poem.  But what I do know is that I was immediately inspired to write and this is what came of it.

You never know who is reading or what your writings can do for other people.

Trust your instincts. Trust your intuition. I can’t say that enough.

Shadows and flowers (spring is in the air)

It’s so close yet it seems so far.

The hint of a memory, like a glimmer of a shadow that catches your attention out of the corner of your eye, certain that you saw it you turn your head to find there’s nothing there, you turn your head even more with hopes of finding even a fading shadow.

You realize it was never there only a distant memory of what was.

But you know.  You remember.

You can recall the smells, the sights and the sounds.

Your body becomes alive, your senses heightened.

Somehow you know.

The flowers are about to grow.

I am vacationing to a chalet in the eastern townships of Quebec for a family gathering this weekend.  We’ve rented a chalet to celebrate Granddad’s 90th birthday.

I am bringing two crock pots full of sausages and bacon.

I will be wearing my rubber boots.

And I will be searching for where the flowers are about to grow.

And so it begins…

In honor of my 3 month blogging anniversary today.
Here is my very first blog post.
Cheers,
Jennifer

So, today I decided to start a Blog, not unlike it seems, the entire free world.

After searching the internet far and wide, researching for tips from the pro’s on how to set up a Blog, how to successfully write a Blog, how often to write in your Blog, I discovered one major theme across them all.  Have a specific direction or idea.  Have a topic or a purpose.

They say don’t write about your love of birds, write about a specific bird but you see, I don’t have a bird, most definitely not a specific bird.  I know a little but not a lot about all of the animal kingdom and I also find all of it equally fascinating and worth expressing thoughts and opinions about.

So let’s get to specifics, boiling it down to a theme, this was a problem.  Yes, I say was because I found the…

Butterfly Box

Here is an older poem pulled forth. It is in regards to childhood depression. It is a way to help open the lines of communication with your young tweens.

The Butterfly Box

There once was a little girl,

With rosy cheeks and hair all a curl.

She loved to dance and she loved to play

In her very own innocent way

Until one day

She didn’t want to dance

And she didn’t want to play

She had all these feelings

that would not go away
