This is not your typical Mother’s Day Story or Tribute

This is my Mothers Day Tribute or Story but sadly it isn’t what you would typically expect to read.
Please give it a read on Mommy blog.
Thank you and Happy Mothers day to all of you Mums out there!
Cheers.

Updated 2026:
This was one of the hardest pieces I ever wrote, and it remains a defining moment in my journey into end-of-life care. Years later—after working as a funeral director, completing my INELDA training, and returning to this calling through Closer Lives—I understand even more deeply what this experience awakened in me. I’m leaving the original story untouched, but I’ve added an important reflection at the end.

Hands gently smoothing a soft white cloth, symbolizing tenderness, care, and end-of-life support.

This is not your typical Mothers Day story or tribute.  It is a real story of love, tragedy, sorrow and grief.  Sadly this isn’t a story at all, it’s a reality, my reality.

I went to school for funeral services, it is a two year program. One year in school and the second year is a paid internship year that you work in funeral services and also complete assignments.  To graduate from the program and get your license you must then pass…

The long lost art of the Smile.

Imagehttp://www.mixedplateblog.com/2009/10/smile.html

Have you forgotten how to smile?

Have you forgotten how to be patient and kind?  Have you forgotten how to be thoughtful, helpful?  When was the last time that you opened a door for someone, went to their aid when they dropped their books?  When was the last time that you connected with a stranger through a meaningful exchange?  When was the last time you asked after someone’s well being? Weekend?  Family?  And actually meant it and were eager to hear the answer?

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO MY NEW WRITINGSOFAMRSMOMMY BLOG!

Imagehttp://www.lvmakeup.com/2012/05/happy-mothers-day.html

I decided to split my blog and create a mother blog.  This new blog will be about my journey as a Mom, wife, homemaker, order taker and over all life as a Mother to 8 children.

I will use this blog as I always have but on the other I will write more about my kids and the joy’s and journey of parenting, home renovating, marriage, recipes etc

I wanted to have a ‘my space’ that is separate from the day to day on goings of Mother hood.  Please join me on my journey as it spreads.

So I welcome you to join me at http://writingsofamrsmommy.wordpress.com
It’s up and running now, so go and take a peak.

The first official post will be on Mother’s Day.  Isn’t that fitting?

Cheers,
Jennifer

So You Want Traffic? 5 Things NOT To Do.

People have been flooding my email with questions asking how I did ‘it’.  What did I do?  How could I have 2,250 followers and over 16,000 hits in just 40 days?

So out of respect for inquiring minds I will share some of my ‘tips’ on how to be a ‘prominent’ member of the blogging community.

Five things NOT TO DO (so don’t do them!)

PAY DAY THURSDAY: Introducing Jim The Running Son

Nonsensical

ImageImage props: Angela Stewart

The poem begins now.

So I call this poem nonsensical.  I wanted to challenge myself.  I always try to search for and pass on meaning, depth, an underlying message in my poetry and I thought this might be a great exercise to help me write outside of my box.  To help me learn to write words that have no correlation, that are nonsensical.  But see this is impossible because all things are related and all words are correlated.  Whether we have the eyes to see it or the soul to feel it.   You can never walk away from it.

While this exercise stretched my word association and the way I think about words I realized that I quite like my box.

So I either failed this exercise miserably or it led me further, deeper in my journey to self-discovery.

Nonsensical

The glimmering dull echo of touch

A day at the Beach. A ‘Storetry’ Collaboration with my Word Press community. Stuff It Tuesdays with the Mrs. Join in!

Welcome to our first Stuff it Tuesday Collaboration!  It was fun to see all of the writing and poems that people came up with and even more fun trying to make it into a fluid ‘storetry’.  Quite the challenge.  I had all of the entries laid out on my floor last night along with a glass of wine.  There are so many talented people in our Word Press community.

I decided to add each persons blog link underneath their entry.  This seemed to be the best way to keep track of each entry, so as you read, read past the links and then you can go back and check out people’s blogs when you have finished the ‘storetry’.  I want to give a shout out to Valerie.  She missed the deadline but also submitted this image so I included.  I apologize for having to refuse some submissions.   I had to set a time line so that I had time to put this all together.  I hope you all understand and that you will contribute to next weeks ‘storetry’ which you will find at the end of this weeks collaboration.

I really hope you enjoy the collaboration.

Alright, enough from me.  Happy reading.

I have so many fond memories of days at the beach, packing up the car and spending days in the sun.  I love being surrounded by the sand, water and the warm wind.  But let me tell you I have many a story about my times at the beach!

The Butterfly Box

There once was a little girl,

With rosy cheeks and hair all a curl.

She loved to dance and she loved to play

In her very own innocent way

Until one day

She didn’t want to dance

And she didn’t want to play

She had all these feelings

that would not go away
