Editing out repetitive words

Some wonderful thoughts about repetitive words from my old blogger friend and author Jade!
As writers we tend to use the same words often.
What words do you need to get the thesaurus out for?

Here are a few poems by the writings and poetry of Kristin Peterman.

The fire inside

It’s the beginning of a new day
The sun is rising and warming my face
I feel cold inside despite the warmth from the sun
The fire inside me is fading away
Is there someone who can ignite it again
Each time I think I have found someone
They disappear with the setting of the sun taking a piece of me with them Continue reading

Technology: The Google Generation

prehistoric googling, index, library

It was the dawning of a new era.  It was the beginning of an abundance of information made readily available and a way to stay connected, known as the World Wide Web.

I recall my grandfather telling me the traditional stories that so many of us have heard through first person accounts or in a tale in a movie, magazine or newspaper article.  “I remember back in the day when I had to walk five miles to get to school with a small coat in the middle of winter.  I used to read my books by candlelight with the smallest gust of wind putting out the flame.  You young people have no idea how easy you have it.”  If having school buses and electricity made our great grandfathers shake their heads imagine what they would think of our life now!

Technology has advanced us in so many ways it’s almost a given that in a group of people if a question arises someone will jump on their cell phone and find the answer.  (You know those people)

Technology has especially advanced us in regards to learning.  I want to take a closer look at the causes and effects of this new generation.  The new ‘tools’ available to aid us in our search for information.  The new Google generation, the cut and paste generation and I don’t mean with scissors and glue. Stop doubting yourself as a writer!

Thank you for the great post!

pagesThe worst enemy to creativity is self doubt.
Sylvia Plath

I saw this quote somewhere recently and it made me reconsider my struggle to finish my novel. Indeed, there is a cold truth in Plath’s assertion. I write best when I move beyond myself. When I get into the zone, so to speak. This zone involves putting words down without any negative energy interrupting the almost magical flow of creativity.

A tall order on most days. Moving beyond the thought that what I have to say is unimportant and forgettable is usually quite difficult. The thoughts that my characters won’t matter to anyone, that the struggles within the book aren’t relevant, that the plot is boring or weak all too often paralyze me. I become incapable of writing anything when I listen to this internal doubt. My self-concept is surrounded by feelings of incapability, of ineptitude. Renders me incapable of…

The Five Star 5 – 40 Years Update…

Congrats Tim, this is great news. It always feels so good to set a goal and achieve it. I know for many people weight loss is a real challenge and setting unrealistic goals can lead to deeper self confidence issues and a vicious cycle of disappointment!

Love your last lesson learned…portion sizes aren’t the portions tiny? lol

I can’t give up the beer and wings with hockey, I’m such a Canadian girl. I have tried to eat moderately and set weight loss goals but I settled on a healthy life style, balanced meals and embracing this now 39 (it’s my bday today!) *gulp* year old body of mine.

Keep setting goals and achieving them my friend! The skies the limit!

I’m proud of you! I may just hit the gym after I have some cake today! lol

At the end of August, I decided I needed to lose some weight. I had progressively let myself go, and for the first time in my life wanted to see if I could commit to losing a few pounds.

I am very proud to say that I DID IT!!!!

I attempted to lose 10 pounds over a 9 week period, and on my last weigh in I had lost 12 pounds!

Here are the top five lessons learned over the 9 weeks:

  • It is NOT an easy thing to do!
  • I still needed a TREAT day once per week to enjoy my favourite foods
  • Eating healthy 95% of the time takes a lot of work but is worth it
  • Eating smaller meals more often did surpress my appetite
  • A  normal portion size is much smaller than I ever thought

Bonus lesson

  • I have a new mindset that if I deeply…
